President’s Message: I hope that everyone is enjoying their summer! The course has been bustling all season, and it’s amazing just how busy the course has become. It’s truly a testament to the product our staff has worked so hard to provide for all of us. We have been fortunate to only close the course a handful of times this season so far, which is remarkable with the amount of rain we’ve experienced. The drainage investments made over the years are paying off nicely as the course has rebounded and reopened quickly after major rain events. Valuable feedback and ideas were shared during the annual meeting earlier this year, and we appreciate the passion that our members have when it comes to the future and direction of the Club. One of the topics discussed was the 18th green, and it’s been the subject of conversation for as long as I can recall. However, we believe now is the time to address it head on. Many members have expressed that they believe #18 is a signature green and should be left as is, and many others have expressed that it needs to be changed as soon as possible. The fairest way to proceed is to ask our members to vote. During the annual meeting, we presented three options: 1) Leave the green as is, 2) Completely redesign the green, or 3) Modify the green, including lowering the back, and raising the bottom left (closest to Route 7). The consensus was that a complete redesign was not necessary, which leaves two options to consider. Accordingly, members will receive a survey tomorrow allowing you to vote for the first or third option. Chris Saylor and Mike Swim have provided a good description of the modifications in the survey, with consideration for playability and construction. Please also feel free to reach out if you still have questions. Send an email with your contact information to golf@champlaincountryclub.com, and we will return your call. If the modification scenario is chosen, we hope to move forward towards the end of the season. Members, please participate in this survey to make your voice heard. Again, on behalf of the Board of Directors, we appreciate all of you. The course has made great strides, and it’s because of you and your support. Please enjoy the rest of your summer! Notes from Grounds Superintendent: The grounds crew have been doing their best to maintain/provide a decent playable golf course between all the rain events. Unfortunately, with hot, humid, and wet conditions comes many different turf diseases that they need to treat. The grounds crew is also expanding the yellow tee on #11 and forward tee on #12, while trying to finish shaping and prepping for sod. Ladies Play: A lot of new golfers have joined Ladies Play! Keep bringing new friends with you to the course because all are welcome. |
