August Newsletter

Hello everyone, It’s hard to believe a month has already gone by since writing the last newsletter. I hope that everyone continues to remain healthy and safe. July was a record month at the course, and our daily numbers continue to be very strong. Members and guests have been able to take advantage of the exceptional course conditions. I have heard nothing but positive comments about the shape of the course.

July and the early part of August have been a busy time for tournament play. Congratulations to both Kim Barkyoumb and Jessie Osbourne as our new 2020 Club Champions. We continue to see great participation in all of the tournaments, and we have several upcoming events as the fall season quickly approaches. We are working on making this year’s Tin Cup the best yet, and we should be announcing details shortly. The Tin Cup is our biggest course fundraiser of the year, helping to fund important projects and equipment. We highly encourage everyone to participate in this event-it’s not only important to the course, but a great time!

The board is moving forward with a proposal from ForeUp Golf to implement a new Point of Sale system in our Pro Shop, which will give our members and guests online booking and payment options, such as booking tee times and making payments online. It will also streamline our Pro Shop staff’s daily activities. The option to make a tee time the same way we do today will still be available. We are looking to “go live” with the software towards the end of the season when things slow down, and there will be a demo in the Pro Shop to ensure everyone knows how to use the tool.

Continue to stay tuned for more information on an informal members’ meeting sometime in September. We will provide a date within the next couple of weeks. We value your feedback and opinions on how to improve the course and better your experience. As always, you are welcome to reach out to us at golf@champlaincountryclub.com. Thank you again for being a member or a guest of Champlain!

Chris Caster, President CCC Board of Directors

From the Greens
Chris Saylor, Superintendent
 Hello all,
In the month of July, we had CCC’s Dan O’Connell Member-Guest Tournament. In my mind, this is the most important tournament of the season for the Maintenance Department, so we spent most of the month preparing the course for our members and their guests that were playing in the three day tournament. Our goal was to try to provide them will the best playing experience we can offer them. To my knowledge, the tournament was a success, with the combination efforts of the Greens Dept, Pro Shop staff, and restaurant staff. A big thanks go out to all that assisted in making the tournament one to talk about.

The grounds crew has also been working on the #1 black tee construction. When I first started at CCC, the #1 black tee was the first thing that I noticed. The wall was collapsing and unmowable all the way around it. Also, the sumac trees on the right side were at least 20 feet tall. So, we took the sumac trees down, rebuilt the supportive part of the wall, and have been hauling material so that next year the #1 black tee will have a new stone wall, and a mowable surround. We appreciate your patience during this construction time as the end result will look really nice!
